Mercy Development Foundation announced Thomas M. Paumier, DDS, will serve as its new board chair effective January 2020. Paumier succeeds Donald Peterson III, who served as board chair since 2016. Peterson will continue to serve as a member of Mercy Development Foundation’s Board of Directors and also serves on Mercy Medical Center’s Board of Directors.
Paumier has been on the active medical staff of Mercy Medical Center since 2006. He has served on Mercy Development Foundation’s Board of Directors since 2011 and has held leadership positions including Vice Chair and Endowment Committee Chair.
“Dr. Paumier brings experience and a passion to serve, as demonstrated by his work as a dentist, volunteer and teacher,” said Thomas F. Turner, president of Mercy Development Foundation and vice president of Development and Government Relations at Mercy Medical Center. “He was an instrumental leader in launching our Mercy Dental Services and General Practice Residency Program in 2007 and continues to serve as a clinical instructor and on its Advisory Board. Dr. Paumier will advocate in his role as chair as a voice for philanthropy to the medical staff, hospital board of directors and community,” Turner said.
Paumier is a native of North Canton and graduated from Hoover High School in 1979. He graduated from The Ohio State University in 1983 and received his D.D.S. degree, with honors, from The Ohio State University College of Dentistry in 1987. He then completed a one year General Practice Residency at St. Elizabeth Hospital Medical Center in Youngstown, OH. He established his private practice in Canton in 1988.
Paumier is a member of (and has held many leadership positions in) the Stark County Dental Society, Ohio Dental Association and American Dental Association (ADA). In 2019 Paumier was awarded the ADA Evidence Based Dentistry Practitioner Award and Pierre Fauchard Distinguished Dentist Award.
“We’d also like to express our appreciation for outgoing chair Donald Peterson,” Turner said. “During Don’s tenure, Mercy Development Foundation raised $6.8 million, and the organization added the Mercy Sporting Clays fundraising event, as well as supported Mercy Service League’s launch of Wine Women & Shoes.”
