Canton, Ohio: Mercy Medical Center is currently taking applications for 2011 Minority Scholarships. These scholarships have been set up by Mercy to provide financial support to minority students who may lack resources necessary to attend college or begin a career path. This year, the hospital is proud to offer two (2) scholarships with a maximum value of $5,000 each to cover tuition and fees for deserving Canton City School students.
The deadline to apply for the Mercy Medical Center Minority Scholarship is Thursday, March 31, 2011.
These scholarships are competitive and consideration is given to students who demonstrate success in the face of adversity (such as overcoming financial, racial, ethnic or other obstacles), have a financial need and maintain a 2.5 grade point average. These awards are renewable annually up to four years providing the students maintain a 2.5 grade point average and make normal progress toward completion of the program or degree. While the scholarship may be awarded to students wishing to obtain a degree, they are also available for those wishing to enter a certificate or diploma program, as long as their education choice could lead to employment at Mercy. The hospital will also have first consideration for employment upon the scholarship recipient’s graduation.
