Canton, Ohio: The Healthy Ohio Business Council (HOBC) will recognize Mercy Medical Center among 87 other large Ohio employers for healthy worksite practices during its 13th annual Healthy Ohio Healthy Worksite Awards ceremony. Mercy is to receive a silver-level award.
These awards are given to Ohio employers that, like Mercy, have demonstrated an ongoing commitment to employee wellness through comprehensive worksite health promotion and wellness programs. Mercy was evaluated on the extent its wellness programs facilitate and encourage employee health, enhance productivity, and ensure a healthy work environment.
“Mercy’s mission since 1908 has been to provide quality, compassionate, affordable and accessible health care for all who come to us, and caring for employees is an important part of that mission,” says Kathy Wise, RD, LD, CWC, CWP, director of wellness. “Also, as a major provider of health care in Northeast Ohio, employee wellness initiatives set the right example for the communities we serve.”
The hospital’s employee wellness model encompasses not only physical health, but also mental, emotional, and spiritual health. Programs offered include hospital-wide exercise challenges, an employee fitness center, fitness classes, regular health screenings, tobacco cessation, diabetes management, nutrituous cafeteria options, Mercy Concern counseling services, Mercy Pastoral Care, and more.
All Ohio worksites, large and small, public and private, for profit and nonprofit, are eligible to apply for the Healthy Worksite Award. The HOBC’s goal is to increase the number of healthy worksites as part of its Ohio’s Plan to Prevent and Reduce Chronic Disease: 2014-2018. The awards ceremony will be held in January 2017 in Columbus, Ohio, as part of the Health Action Council 2017 Columbus Symposium. The symposium features national experts on health reform, health care systems and health benefits.
