Canton, OH: Mercy Medical Center has received a Ronald McDonald House Charities of Northeastern Ohio Mini Grant. The funding will allow for the purchase of Sprout Learning Backpacks to be utilized by the parents and children of Skyline Terrace, a Section 8 housing complex located in SE Canton. Mercy has a well established history of offering evidence based, outreach programming to this underserved community. Sprout Learning Backpacks are unique educational tools that are developmentally appropriate and support the Ohio Department of Education’s Early Learning Content Standards and are available through the Early Childhood Resource Center in Canton.
Since 1994, Mercy Medical Center has been sharing resources and working together with other Catholic Consortium agencies to make an impact in the lives of many residents at Skyline Terrace. Programs offers to residents include “Ask-a-Nurse” meetings, baby showers, peace camps, Project Care (a resident empowerment program), Mercy PALS and a STARS homework club.
