Canton, Ohio – Mercy Medical Center will be sponsoring the following educational Medicare events for local seniors (or soon-to-be seniors) in October:
Community Medicare Check-Up – Stark County District Library – Plain Community Branch
Stark County District Library – Plain Community Branch (1803 Schneider St. NE, Canton) is hosting a community Medicare Check-Up event on Tuesday, October 11th from 9am – 3pm. A representative from the Ohio Department of Insurance’s OSHIIP (Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program) and an OSHIIP trained Mercy Medical Center volunteer will be on site to answer Medicare questions/concerns about:
• Medicare health coverage for seniors and for people under 65 with disabilities
• Medicare Health Plans, such as HMOs
• Medicare supplemental insurance
• Long-term care insurance
• Home health care coverage
• Retiree health plan coverage
• Savings programs (such as Medicaid, QMB and SLMB) for people with Medicare
• Extra held for prescription drug coverage
Walk-ins are welcome for this FREE “Check-Up” – if you are on Medicare, OSHIIP exists specifically for you. Mercy has partnered with Ohio Department of Insurance to be your Stark County OSHIIP site, which is located at the Senior Friends office inside Mercy Medical Center. Additional community Medicare Check-Ups will be held throughout 2011 in the following locations:
• Mercy Health Center of Tuscarawas County (November 10)
• Rodman Public Library – Alliance (December 5)

Medicare Options Event
Mercy Medical Center Senior Friends is sponsoring a free Medicare Options Event on Tues., October 11th at 9 a.m. in the Mercy Medical Office Building Auditorium.
This event, designed to help seniors choose the right Medicare Advantage Plan, will begin with a Medicare Advantage Plan overview by Terri Gursky, Mercy’s Medicare Specialist and Stark County OSHIIP (Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program) Coordinator. Guests may also compare the cost, coverage and convenience of several Medicare Advantage Plans in one location. No reservations are required.
Representatives from several Medicare Advantage Plans will be on site. In Stark County alone, there are 32 different Medicare Part C plans from which participants may choose. Mercy’s Medicare Options Event allows individuals to explore their choices and ask questions.

Medicare Check Up Day – Mercy Medical Center
On Monday, October 24th, the Ohio Department of Insurance, OSHIIP Division, and Mercy Medical Center have partnered to host a FREE Medicare general information presentation at 10 a.m. This event will cover 2012 Medicare updates. There will also be an evaluation of health plans and prescription D plans available from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.
