Canton, Ohio – Open Enrollment for Medicare is earlier this year and will only run until December 7th. Mercy Medical Center will be sponsoring several educational Medicare events for local seniors (or soon-to-be seniors) throughout the month of November.
Community Medicare Check-Up – Mercy Health Center of Tuscarawas County
Mercy Health Center of Tuscarawas County (1031 W. High Ave., New Philadelphia) is hosting a community Medicare Check-Up event on Thursday, November 10th from 9am – 3pm. A representative from the Ohio Department of Insurance’s OSHIIP (Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program) and an OSHIIP trained Mercy Medical Center volunteer will be on site to answer Medicare questions/concerns about:
• Medicare health coverage for seniors and for people under 65 with disabilities
• Medicare Health Plans, such as HMOs
• Medicare supplemental insurance
• Long-term care insurance
• Home health care coverage
• Retiree health plan coverage
• Savings programs (such as Medicaid, QMB and SLMB) for people with Medicare
• Extra held for prescription drug coverage
Walk-ins are welcome for this FREE “Check-Up” – if you are on Medicare, OSHIIP exists specifically for you. Mercy has partnered with Ohio Department of Insurance to be your Stark County OSHIIP site, which is located at the Senior Friends office inside Mercy Medical Center.
OSHIIP/Mercy will be holding one final Community Medicare Check-Up in Alliance at Rodman Public Library (215 E. Broadway) on December 5.

Medicare Options Event
Mercy Medical Center Senior Friends is sponsoring (2) free Medicare Options Events on Tuesday, November 15th and Tuesday, November 29th at 9 a.m. in the Mercy Medical Office Building Auditorium.
These events, designed to help seniors choose the right Medicare Advantage Plan, will begin with a Medicare Advantage Plan overview by Terri Gursky, Mercy’s Medicare Specialist and Stark County OSHIIP (Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program) Coordinator. Guests may also compare the cost, coverage and convenience of several Medicare Advantage Plans in one location. No reservations are required.
Representatives from several Medicare Advantage Plans will be on site. In Stark County alone, there are 32 different Medicare Part C plans from which participants may choose. Mercy’s Medicare Options Event allows individuals to explore their choices and ask questions.
