Mercy Medical Center will hold a FREE Caregiver Retreat, Caring for the Caregiver, on Saturday, November 4, 8 a.m. until 12 noon in the Community Room at Mercy Health Center of Jackson, 7337 Caritas Circle NW, Massillon.
This special event will include breakfast refreshments and check-in (8 a.m. – 8:30 a.m.), community resource tables, door prizes and break-out sessions on topics including stress reduction, mindfulness, gentle stretching, strength training and finding joy.
The keynote presentation, Giving Care: The Struggle to Maintain Balance and Life for Yourself, will be given by Janey Davis, caregiver and founding member of Stark County MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving). Davis became a full-time caregiver in 1980 when her 17 year old son Jim became a quadriplegic from a violent car crash. An only child, she also served as caregiver for each of her parents. During this time, Davis helped form Stark County MADD and was active as a speaker for the group. She is currently writing a memoir called Letting Go, Telling Their Story.
