Canton, Ohio: The College of American Pathologists (CAP) has awarded Mercy Medical Center Pathology and Laboratory Medicine its Cycle 2 CAP 15189 designation, a reaccreditation based on the quality standards outlined by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). Mercy was the first hospital in Northeast Ohio to achieve CAP 15189 accreditation in 2011.
According to Tom Cecconi, Mercy president and CEO, surveyors commended Mercy for the experience and teamwork of staff, as well as ongoing facility upgrades.
“CAP 15189 is a voluntary accreditation, and our lab is to be commended for undertaking this accreditation process,” says Cecconi. “I congratulate Medical Director Aida Safar, MD, and other physicians and staff in our lab for their dedication, hard work and success.”
Dr. Safar says Mercy’s goal remains to optimize patient care, maximize patient safety, and provide highly accurate results to our medical staff and their patients.
“Receiving reaccreditation validates our ongoing efforts to conform to the highest level of quality and safety, which ultimately benefits the patients of Mercy Medical Center,” says Dr. Safar.
