Mercy Improves Patient Comfort and MRI Image Quality

Canton, Ohio:  Radiology Services at Mercy Medical Center is proud to announce the arrival of the GE Wide-Bore 1.5 Tesla MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) Scanner at its main campus.  This new MRI scanner can accommodate patients up to 500 lb, offering obese patients faster imaging with higher resolution and more detail than the typically used open MRI scanner.

The increased “bore-size” (center of magnetic cylinder that the patient is placed in) and decreased length reduce the claustrophobia associated with a typical closed scanner.  This new scanner is located in a large, open suite with floor to ceiling windows to help further alleviate patients’ fear of tight spaces.

Mercy Medical Center, a ministry of the Sisters of Charity Health System, operates a 476-bed hospital serving Stark, Carroll, Wayne, Holmes and Tuscarawas Counties and parts of Southeastern Ohio. It has 620 members on its Medical Staff and employs 2,500 people. Mercy operates outpatient health centers in Carroll County, Jackson Township, Lake Township, Louisville, North Canton, Plain Township and Tuscarawas County. A Catholic hospital, Mercy Medical Center upholds the mission and philosophy of the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine and continues to be responsive to the needs of the community.
