Mercy Medical Center will host a Service of Remembrance at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 13 in Mercy Medical Center’s Chapel for families who have had a perinatal loss. A perinatal loss is the loss of a pregnancy through miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, stillborn or neonatal death. One in four pregnancies will end in a loss.
“When families suffer a perinatal loss, they sometimes find it difficult to find support,” said Linda Heitger, BA, BSN, RN, perinatal loss coordinator at Mercy Maternity Services. “A perinatal loss is different than the loss of an adult. These families have lost their dreams and their hopes for the future,” she said.
Mercy’s Service of Remembrance provides a place and a time where families can talk about their pregnancy and their baby. They will feel compassion and love and know that they are not alone and that their baby is remembered. A reception will follow in Mercy Medical Center’s Board Room.
