Canton, Ohio: Mercy Hospice is seeking volunteers to help terminally ill patients and their families. Volunteers offer respite care, bereavement support and patient visits. They also share special talents such as music, art, massage and aromatherapy. Volunteers in non-patient care areas serve as office assistants, event planners and training instructors. Volunteers are important members of the Mercy Hospice patient care team.
Mercy Hospice is offering its next training program for volunteers who will serve in patient care areas from 1 to 4 p.m. on Feb. 14, 16, 21 and 23 at Mercy Hospice, located at 7568 Whipple Ave., N.W., North Canton. Mercy Hospice is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to care for terminally ill patients and their families. Hospice focuses on the quality of life and draws upon the expertise of physicians, clergy, nurses, counselors, social workers, home health aides, therapists and trained volunteers. The philosophy of hospice is reflected through the beliefs that dying is part of living and that dying persons and their families have physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs as well as a right to make decisions related to meeting those needs.
