Canton, Ohio: Your heart has an important job, but it can’t do it without your help. The choices you make every day can help or hurt your heart. In recognition of American Heart Month, Mercy Cardiac Rehabilitation is sponsoring a free community education program titled “Your Healthy Heart.” Margie Boldt, registered dietitian at Mercy Medical Center, will present the program from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 15 at Mercy Health Center of North Canton. Reservations are not required. For more information, call 330-966-8997.
Understanding Cardiac Rehabilitation
The number of people who might benefit from cardiac rehab is high: An estimated 1.2 million people in the United States will have a new or recurrent coronary attack this year, while another 800,000 will have coronary artery intervention procedures, such as bypass surgery. Those who undergo cardiac rehabilitation have a 26 percent lower risk of dying of their heart disease than people who do not participate in a rehab program, according to the American Heart Association.
