Congratulations to Medina resident, Brittney Johnson, RN, Emergency Department, for being named Mercy Medical Center’s January 2015 Star Performer employee. The Star Performer program is the hospital’s employee recognition and rewards program. Hospital employees, volunteers and staff are nominated each month for demonstrating outstanding performance, being a team player, going “above and beyond”, being creative and innovative and for championing service excellence.
She was nominated for her quick action and heroic efforts after she happened upon an automobile accident in January. Johnson not only stopped her vehicle, but stayed with the driver and applied compression to his head wound until paramedics arrived. The driver was so appreciative of Johnson’s efforts that he contacted Steve Baker, an administrative shift manager at Mercy, to personally thank her. He feels that Johnson helped save his life and that she was sent from heaven that day. “Not all angels have wings, some wear scrubs,” said the driver.
According to Jason Pirtz, administrative director of Critical Care Services at Mercy, “She (Johnson) is truly a compassionate person that cares most about others. She is a hero and viewed this incident as just another day.” Gerald Clarke, manager of Mercy’s Emergency Department, echoed Pirtz’s sentiments, “Brittney is an awesome addition to the Mercy team and has set the bar extremely high for acts of selfless care towards others – her true nature prevails and shines through.”
She has been an employee at the hospital since 2014 and was presented with her award by Thomas E. Cecconi, president & CEO of Mercy Medical Center.
