Massillon resident, Damon Magenau, certified occupational therapy assistant for Mercy Therapy Services, has recently been chosen as the hospital’s Star Performer employee.
Magenau is recognized for the role he played in helping a patient’s family member during a medical emergency. After noticing the family member stumbling, he made a quick medical decision to take him to the emergency room for evaluation. The patient was found to have a serious medical condition and Damon’s quick actions likely saved this patient’s life.
“Damon is a great team player,” said Dax Dipold, manager of Mercy Therapy Services. “He is the first person to offer help when his work is done,” he said. Magenau’s career did not start in the medical field. While he worked for his family’s insurance company, Magenau’s wife worked as a certified occupational therapy assistant. “I got to hear all the good things my wife was doing with people and decided to go back to school,” he said. “I love acute care therapy. We have very sick and often elderly patients. Many of them have lost hope, and I love trying to get a smile back on their faces and helping them to take the first steps, both literally and figuratively, back to independence.”
The Star Performer program is the hospital’s employee recognition and rewards program. Hospital employees, volunteers and staff are nominated each month for demonstrating outstanding performance, being a team player, going “above and beyond”, being creative and innovative and for championing service excellence. Please click here for media inquiries
