Congratulations to Chris Fogarty, RN, BSN, a 2016 recipient of the Kent State University College of Nursing’s Barbara Donaho Distinguished Leadership in Learning Award. Named in honor of former Kent State University College of Nursing Advisory Chair Barbara Donaho, the award recognizes area nurses who demonstrate effective leadership, compassionate role modeling, and sound professional mentoring.
Chris is also a 2012 recipient of Robert Wood Johnson’s New Careers in Nursing scholarship program and a founding member of their Scholar’s Network. Chris graduated with honors in 2013 from the Kent State University’s accelerated BSN program. In 2014, he was featured in Nursing Notes by Johnson & Johnson — an e-publication of the Johnson & Johnson Campaign for Nursing’s Future — as a shining example of what it means to truly care for patients.
Nursing is Chris’s second career. He was inspired to become a nurse after providing overnight care for a family friend’s elderly father.
He says, “Helping others in their most vulnerable moments was a real ministry and I loved that. I knew I had to look into nursing as a second career.”
