Larry*, a Mercy Weight Management Client, Shares How Losing Weight Put Him, Not His Weight, in Control
When you are overweight at 380 pounds, it affects every area of your life. Your weight is always on your mind, and it has an impact on everything you do. Before joining the Mercy Weight Management OPTIFAST program, I had a long list of health issues, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, leg and knee pain, and sleep apnea, all making me miserable.
Each day came with its own problems, starting with getting dressed. It was difficult to find nice clothing, and large sizes are expensive. Getting in and out of the car or public transportation was hard. Flying meant feeling embarrassed and having to ask for a seatbelt extender. Walking to my destination meant finding places to sit and take a break. My feet and back hurt. Climbing stairs meant resting every few steps, always arriving out of breath, and of course, the feeling of being stared at in restaurants.
OPTIFAST saved my life. Diabetes and my other health issues are gone. I’m working out daily at the YMCA. I can now shop at any store and buy clothes that fit, at reasonable prices. I can sit in booths and not just at tables. I have more energy and self-confidence. With my new weight, my social life has improved, and it is fun to watch people try to recognize me.
OPTIFAST has given me my life back. I am 68 years old and have been married for 49 years. I am within 20 pounds of my goal, which is to weigh what I weighed when I got married in 1968. The best part of my weight loss is that now when my grandchildren hug me, their arms go all the way around me. At 240 pounds, I am now in control, not my weight.
