Exercise Is Medicine: Why Physical Activity Should Be Prescribed [SlideShare]

Posted on: February 28, 2014

I recently presented a free community talk on why exercise IS medicine, meaning it can be as effective as a prescribed medication for certain health conditions, such as heart disease, diabetes and others. This goes along with the blog post I wrote last week on the ways you may be able to benefit from a medical fitness center, which differs in several significant ways from a traditional gym or health club. Some of the topics I covered in this presentation include:

  • The importance of prescribing exercise
  • US Physical Activity Guidelines
  • Cardiac rehabilitation and how it works
  • Components of ExRx for risk factor reduction
  • FITT principle
  • Stages of conditioning
  • Strength training

If you have any questions, feel free to post them in the comment section below, and I’ll respond. Or call the Mercy Health & Fitness Center at 330-966-8997.
