To help prevent the misuse of prescription drugs and address the safety and health hazards of pharmaceutical waste, Mercy Medical Center is partnering with the Stark County Sheriff’s Office and Canton City Police Department to serve as a collection site for the United States Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) first ever nationwide Prescription Drug “Take-Back” Initiative on Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010.

Individuals may drop off unwanted or expired over-the-counter and pharmaceutical pills, liquids and creams–no questions asked–between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at Mercy’s main campus in the rear parking lot. Please remove all identification labels. All medicine bottles will be recycled, and all drugs will be properly incinerated. IV solutions and syringes will not be accepted. This program is anonymous, and no identification is needed.
