LETTER TO THE COMMUNITY
August 1, 2007
Dear Friend of Mercy Medical Center:
On September 24, 1908, the feast day of Our Lady of Mercy, the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine dedicated and opened the doors of Mercy Hospital, admitting two patients into what was once the downtown Canton home of the late President William McKinley.
That was the beginning of Mercy Medical Center’s first century of caring for our community. For 100 years, our mission has remained unchanged: we continue to provide compassionate, quality care for the whole person.
We consider it an honor to steward this legacy of care and want to give the Mercy family and the communities we serve an opportunity to celebrate this significant milestone with us. The Mercy Centennial Committee is currently planning a series of events and endeavors that will commence on September 24, 2007. Watch for announcements in Pulse, Physician Update, on our website (www.cantonmercy.com) and in the media.
We have also created a special logo that includes the phrase, “Our Mission Continues.” We believe it captures our commitment to the Sisters’ foundational values and our passion for healthcare leadership, quality and service, now and in the future. This centennial logo will be incorporated into all Mercy communications over the next year.
You will find enclosed a Centennial Celebration Prayer, which we encourage you to use in your meetings and in your personal reflections over the coming year. We hope this year-long observance of Mercy’s 100th anniversary will serve as a reminder of the Sisters’ participation in the healing mission of Jesus as well as an inspiration to live the Mercy mission every day of our next 100 years.
