"I like volunteering at Mercy because the work environment is outstanding, clean, respectful and fun." ~ Volunteer Loel Stein

Meet Loel Stein, a part of our Mercy volunteer family for seven years. With more than 3,240 hours, Loel helps at the cancer center information desk twice a week and as a Eucharistic minister once a week. In the past, you may have seen his friendly face at the heart center or human resources information desks. He has also assisted with various clerical projects and special events and trained other volunteers.

Loel says he likes volunteering at Mercy because the work environment is outstanding, clean, respectful and fun.

"The work is always interesting, and the people with whom I work and interact (both professionals and volunteers) are dedicated and skilled," he says. "Also, the patients I assist are always pleasant, grateful and appreciative."

Loel says he understands that people don't want to be sick or hospitalized, so he tries keep things light and fun - making the experience as positive as possible under the circumstances for patients, families, visitors and guests.

"The thing I like best about volunteering at Mercy is that it gives me a chance to give a little something back to Jesus Christ for all the many blessing he has bestowed on me," Loel says. "Jesus said, 'That which you did for one of these brothers of mine, even the least of them, you did it to me,' and I believe that.”
