Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women and claims more female lives than all forms of cancer combined. Mercy Heart Center is proud to be the 2013 Go Red for Women partner with the American Heart Association (AHA). This is the 10-year anniversary for Go Red for Women, which was created to fight heart disease in women through education and research. According to a Go Red for Women survey, nearly 90 percent of women who Go Red by joining the movement made at least one healthy behavior change. Mercy Heart Center will offer many educational community programs and events during February (American Heart Month) and throughout 2013. For a complete listing of these programs, and to see how you can become involved in the Go Red for Women initiative, visit cantonmercy.org/GoRed. Healy II, a proclamation by Stark County Commissioner Janet Creighton and the STEMI (St Elevation Myocardial Infarction) Cup presentation by Ahmed Sabe, M.D., medical director of Mercy Heart Center and co-director of Mercy Emergency Chest Pain Center (ECPC). Canal Fulton EMS received the STEMI Cup for achieving the fastest door to balloon angioplasty time of five minutes and 49 seconds.
