Mercy Employee Brightens Lab Coats

Kelly Heffner, a lab technician at Mercy Medical Center, shares her love of drawing with co-workers.

Heffner says it began when she drew a design on a lab coat for a co-worker’s birthday. “I then began to get requests from other lab employees for pictures they wanted on their coats,” Heffner says.

She has drawn everything from an owl to flowers to a deer and angels. Department lab coats are disposable, so when they begin to wear, employees cut out the drawings and post them on cubicle walls in their department. Last Christmas, Heffner made a lab coat for every one of her co-workers. It took hours Heffner admits. But she says she likes sharing something she enjoys with her work “family.”

Commitment to our patients and each other is at the heart of our mission at Mercy Medical Center.
