Forty-five years ago, Saidi Eckert arrived in Canton with little money and no job. She says she wanted to follow God’s will for her life and was asking Him for direction. God answered her prayer.

Saidi says she heard God say, “Follow me. You see that building over there, which says Mercy? You go there. They have mercy and will tend to you. You stay there until I come back for you.” Saidi smiles when she says, “God never came back so I am still here.”

Posted by Cindy Hickey on Tue, Oct 22, 2013 - 1:39 PM in Employees

On June 22, Leroy Essick’s heart stopped. Thanks to the quick response from Mercy Medical Center employees and the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), Essick’s heart is beating again. He can’t recall how long he suffered from shoulder pain, but he says it happened off and on for some time. “Anytime I would get discomfort, I’d take cayenne pepper,” Essick recalls. “And when I’d break out into a cold sweat, I’d have to lay down.” But this past spring the pain worsened, and Essick says it started to go down his arm.
