Why You Need a Primary Care Physician [Infographic]

Primary care physicians (family doctors, pediatricians, internal medicine and others) are a vital part of maintaining good health throughout your lifetime. Over time, they become knowledgeable about not only your physical condition, but also your mental health, family situation, nature of your work and much more. It's a relationship you need to cultivate because studies show that people with a PCP:

  1. Have chronic disease under control
  2. Have lower health care bills
  3. Have more satisfaction with their health care
  4. Receive more preventive care, which leads to earlier treatment and better outcomes

If you don't have a family doctor or internal medicine physician, check out the helpful infographic from iTriage below; it provides more details about why everyone needs a PCP. In Canton, Ohio, and surrounding communities, Mercy's family medicine doctors are accepting new patients. You can also access a local provider list when you download the free iTriage app with a symptom checker. Research conditions, find doctors and health care centers, and store your health information online safely and conveniently.

For those of you who already have a PCP, don't forget to schedule your annual check-up!
