The Ohio Automated Rx Reporting System (OARRS) is a web based system that collects information on all outpatient prescriptions for controlled substances dispensed by licensed pharmacies in Ohio. Ohio law requires physicians renewing their medical license to certify that they have registered for an OARRS account.
As of April 1, 2015, Ohio law established requirements for prescribers of controlled substances to request, assess and document an OARRS report prior to prescribing the controlled substance. Certain exceptions to the mandatory checks exist (e.g. controlled substances prescribed/ administered in the hospital, prescriptions in an amount that does not exceed seven days, treatment of cancer or related conditions).
