Bill Hardman is a high school history teacher and football coach and middle school athletic director and track coach. And like four million Americans, Hardman suffered from morbid obesity.
During the summer of 2011, Hardman visited his family physician for an annual check-up. According to Hardman, his doctor said, “I don’t know of someone your size who’s 70 years old and living.”
“This really scared me,” Hardman said. “I thought to myself, I’m 58 years old, and I need to do something.”
Hardman says he did not want to try the surgical approach. “I was looking for something else and found OPTIFAST®. I read a lot about it online and then called Mercy to sign-up for an informational meeting.”
Hardman began the program on Labor Day in 2011. As of June 2012 – just nine months later – he lost over 220 pounds and transitioned from the full fast supplements to one-a-day meal replacement in combination with regular balanced meals.
“The program has been superb,” Hardman says. Hardman was concerned his busy schedule as a teacher and coach might affect his ability to do everything required of the program. But Hardman found Mercy’s OPTIFAST® staff to be very supportive and willing to work with his schedule to help him achieve his desired results.
Hardman is now off his cholesterol medication. The pressure prescribed for his sleep apnea machine has been lowered three times, and he says his doctor expects he’ll be off the machine all together this summer. He also notes that his energy is better, he feels better about himself and looks better too.
“They literally helped save my life,” Hardman says when talking about Mercy’s OPTIFAST® staff. “It was much easier than I thought it would be. The program was exactly what I needed.”
