Mercy’s sports medicine team is made up of certified, experienced providers who can help you with injury treatment and recovery, as well as injury prevention and sport performance enhancement.
Board certified in family practice and primary care sports medicine, Dr. Hudak specializes in the prevention and treatment of sports injuries of all types. A native of Canton, Ohio, and the team physician for Malone University, Dr. Hudak brought ImPACT Concussion Management to Stark County. This unique program helps medical providers assess an athlete’s recovery following a concussion.

Eldon Jones, Director of Mercy Sports Medicine and Health & Fitness
Eldon Jones received his B.A. from Walsh University, M.A. in Exercise Physiology from Kent State University, and MBA in Business Administration from Kent State University. Jones has worked at Mercy Medical Center since 1978.
He currently serves as the volunteer advisor for the Canton Marathon Running Club Training Program. He also coaches the St. Thomas Aquinas High School girls cross country team.
Dave Downey, MS, ATC
Dave Downey received a Bachelor of Science in Adult Fitness from Malone University and a Master’s in Exercise Science from California University of Pennsylvania. He has special interest in sports medicine, functional movement screening, golf biomechanics and the prevention and treatment of back pain injuries. Downey is a certified Ohio licensed athletic trainer.
