PVD Exercise Program
Peripheral Vascular Disease Exercise Program
PROGRAM COMPONENTS
Program is designed to improve PVD symptoms and fitness levels. Each participant will be individually evaluated to determine appropriate exercise session schedule. Exercise sessions are available Monday-Friday. Each exercise session consists of:
- Warm-up exercises
- Treadmill walking (in small increments of 3-5 minutes, followed by brief rest breaks, for up to 35 minutes or as tolerated.)
- Cool-down exercises
Each participant will be individually evaluated based upon medical history and fitness goals to determine appropriate schedule and level of supervision necessary. Program typically consists of supervised exercise sessions 3X/week for 12 weeks. Individual and group education is offered on topics such as:
- Smoking Cessation
- Weight Management
- Diabetes
- Hypertension
- Hyperlipidemia
- Other cardiac risk factors

MONITORING
Participants in the PVD program with a cardiac history will have ECG monitoring the first of each month. If necessary, additional monitoring is available on an as needed basis. Progress reports and special communications are provided to personal physicians. Participants will have their blood pressure and heart rates taken as appropriate.
Every participant who enrolls in the PVD program will have an orientation with a nurse. The nurse will review medical history, medications, and program guidelines.
Orientation Fee: $25.00 Orientation fees are due at the time of orientation session.
Individual Monthly Fee: $40.00
Physician referral is required prior to participation. These exercise sessions offer you proper exercise and education with the reassurance that proper supervision is available. The Mercy Health & Fitness Center is open to the public. If spouses, family, and friends are interested in joining the fitness center or have any questions regarding this program, please see a staff member or call 330-966-8997.
