Mercy Sponsors Free Education Event On Robotic Prostatectomy

Mercy Medical Center will sponsor a free community education event about robotic surgery prostatectomy on Mon., June 15, at 6:30 p.m. in the Mercy Medical Office Building Auditorium in Canton.

Steven E. Ochs, M.D., Mercy urologist, will discuss the benefits of a prostatectomy with minimally invasive, robotic surgery, including:
· Faster recovery and a shorter hospital stay.
· Less pain and discomfort.
· Less risk of side effects.

The program is free but reservations are required. To reserve your seat, call Mercy Healthcare Connection at 330-489-1333 or 1-800-223-8662.

Mercy was the first in Stark, Carroll, Wayne, Holmes and Tuscarawas Counties to offer robotic minimally invasive surgery (MIS). The hospital’s state-of-the-art technology also offers excellent surgical outcomes in gynecology, GYN/oncology and other specialties.

Guided by cameras and scopes, surgeons have been using MIS for two decades to perform certain procedures through tiny incisions rather than open surgery, resulting in fewer complications. Mercy’s robotic system combines computer and robotic technologies, providing surgeons with improved dexterity, visual depth perception, camera stability and ergonomics.

Mercy Medical Center, a nonprofit corporation of the Sisters of Charity Health System and University Hospitals Health System, operates a 476-bed hospital serving Stark, Carroll, Wayne, Holmes and Tuscarawas Counties and parts of Southeastern Ohio. It has 550 physicians on its Medical Staff and employs 2,500 people. Mercy operates outpatient health centers in Carrollton, Jackson Township, Lake Township, Louisville, North Canton, Plain Township and Tuscarawas County. A Catholic hospital, Mercy Medical Center upholds the mission and philosophy of the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine and continues to be responsive to the needs of the community, including the provision of care to all, regardless of their ability to pay.
