Mercy Offers Suicide Risk Assessment Workshop
Canton, Ohio: In recognition of National Suicide Prevention Week (Sept. 7 – 13), Mercy Medical Center Behavioral Health will sponsor a two-hour suicide risk assessment workshop for professionals and community members on Wed., Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. in the Mercy Hall Auditorium.
The program is free but reservations are required. Reserve a seat by calling the Mercy Healthcare Connection at 330-489-1333 or 1-800-223-8662. Dr. Resnick is a national authority in forensic psychiatry and has served as a consultant in many high-profile cases, including Jeffrey Dahmer, Susan Smith, Timothy McVeigh, Andrea Yates and Theodore Kaczynski (the Unabomber). He has served as president of the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law and has published more than 130 articles. Mercy Behavioral Health will also hold a community open house on September 10 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Mercy Medical Office Building Auditorium. The open house will include representatives and informational booths from area mental health agencies. Mercy Medical Center, a nonprofit corporation of the Sisters of Charity Health System and University Hospitals Health System, operates a 476-bed hospital serving Stark, Carroll, Wayne, Holmes and Tuscarawas Counties and parts of Southeastern Ohio. It has 550 physicians on its Medical Staff and employs 2,500 people. Mercy operates outpatient health centers in Carrollton, Jackson Township, Lake Township, Louisville and North Canton. The program will feature Phillip J. Resnick, M.D., professor of psychiatry and director of forensic psychiatry at Case Western Reserve School of Medicine in Cleveland. Continuing Education Credits (CEUs) for professionals are available.
