Mercy Appoints Aqeel Sandhu, M.D., Medical Director Of Cardiothoracic Surgery

Canton, Ohio: Mercy Medical Center recently appointed Aqeel A. Sandhu, M.D., F.A.C.S., medical director of cardiothoracic surgery.

Dr. Sandhu is a Harvard-trained Cardiothoracic Surgeon whose post doctoral training included the honor of serving Professor Sir Magdi Yacoub at the Royal Brompton Hospital, London, UK. After serving at the Royal Brompton Hospital, the leading Cardiovascular surgical program in Europe, he joined the department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. Dr. Sandhu is board certified in both surgery and thoracic surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

Ahmed Sabe, M.D., medical director of the Mercy Heart Center, believes Dr. Sandhu's capabilities will further enhance the hospital's highly accredited program. He said, "I am pleased to have a local surgeon of such unparalleled experience directing cardiothoracic surgery at Mercy. His skill as a physician and a surgeon will help save lives, as well as open up new treatment options for our patients."
