Help Serve Patients and Visitors at Mercy Medical Center
Canton, Ohio: Mercy Medical Center Volunteer Services Department is looking for local organizations and clubs that can provide services to our patients and visitors. Offsite groups – such as church youth groups, sewing circles, Girls Scouts and Boy Scouts – can serve Mercy patients from the comfort of their homes or offices. Examples of service projects may include magazine and book donations, sewing projects or creating get–well cards.
If you are a part of a group that would like to participate in a service project to benefit the patients of Mercy Medical Center, please contact Beth Koniecko in the Volunteer Services Office at 330-489-1182. We’d love to hear your ideas.

Mercy Heart Center commits the very finest medical resources to caring for its heart patients. Doctors and healthcare teams are leaders in cardiovascular treatment, distinguished not only by their skill, experience and knowledge, but by their excellent track record in helping patients return to active and productive lives.
Mercy has helped pioneer some of the nation’s most innovative heart procedures and was the first hospital in Northeast Ohio to perform Minimally Invasive Direct Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery, a “closed-chest” procedure, which postpones or eliminates the need for open-heart surgery.
Mercy Heart Center medical staff performed this area’s first hybrid revascularization, which combines the da Vinci© robotic single-vessel small thoracotomy (SVST) procedure with angioplasty.
Mercy Emergency Chest Pain Center (ECPC) became America’s first chest pain center to become fully accredited by the Society of Chest Pain Centers. The ECPC is home to a Cardiac Catheterization Lab within Mercy’s Emergency Department, where a Mercy cardiologist was the first in the world to perform an angioplasty inside an emergency department. Studies show that angioplasty, performed within 90 minutes of arrival to the emergency department, is the best way to save the life of a patient experiencing a heart attack. With the area’s only emergency department cath lab, Mercy has the capabilities to dramatically reduce the time between heart attack and lifesaving angioplasty.

Mercy Cancer Center has been accredited since 1986 as a Community Hospital Comprehensive Cancer Program by the Commission on Cancer (CoC) of the American College of Surgeons. In 2008 CoC awarded Mercy Cancer Center the Outstanding Achievement Award for excellence in cancer care. Mercy is the only area hospitaland one of just 95 facilities nationwideto earn the award, along with the CoC¹s three-year re-accreditation with commendation. Fewer than 20 percent of cancer programs in the United States attain this superior recognition. This earmark of quality ensures patients will receive the very best comprehensive cancer care without ever leaving Stark County.
