Mercy Weight Management Awarded National Clinic of the Year!
OPTIFAST® by Nestle Nutrition awarded Mercy Weight Management Clinic of the Year on March 31, 2011, at the Nestle OPTIFAST Marketing Conference in Chicago, IL. Mercy was selected among over 400 OPTIFAST clinics nationwide, 100 of which are hospital-based. Award winners were selected based on year over year growth of the program and a written essay, which included the candidate's demonstrated use of the OPTIFAST programs and protocols.
Mercy Weight Management has an OPTIFAST Clinic at Mercy Medical Center. Developed in 1974 to treat obesity in a healthy and effective way, OPTIFAST is a weight-management program that combines lifestyle education and medical monitoring with a meal replacement plan. Under the medical direction of Joseph G. Vrabel, D.O., participants will receive the following:
- A calorie-controlled meal replacement plan
- A baseline screening and medical evaluation
- Weekly weigh-ins and educational group meetings
- Membership to Mercy Health & Fitness Center
During the program, patients develop the skills needed to maintain long-term weight loss. Studies show that after two years 50 percent of patients maintained more than half their weight loss, and 75 percent maintained medically significant weight loss. For more information, visit OPTIFAST.com.

Overview of Cancer Center
Mercy Cancer Center has been accredited since 1986 as a Community Hospital Comprehensive Cancer Program by the Commission on Cancer (CoC) of the American College of Surgeons. In 2008 CoC awarded Mercy Cancer Center the Outstanding Achievement Award for excellence in cancer care. Mercy is the only area hospital and one of just 95 facilities nationwide to earn the award, along with the CoC¹s three-year re-accreditation with commendation. Fewer than 20 percent of cancer programs in the United States attain this superior recognition. This earmark of quality ensures patients will receive the very best comprehensive cancer care without ever leaving Stark County.

Mercy Medical Center Info
Mercy Medical Center, a ministry of the Sisters of Charity Health System, operates a 476-bed hospital serving Stark, Carroll, Wayne, Holmes and Tuscarawas Counties and parts of Southeastern Ohio. It has 620 members on its Medical Staff and employs 2,500 people. Mercy operates outpatient health centers in Carrollton, Jackson Township, Lake Township, Louisville, North Canton, Plain Township and Tuscarawas County. A Catholic hospital, Mercy Medical Center upholds the mission and philosophy of the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine and continues to be responsive to the needs of the community.
