Did you know that stroke is the fifth-leading cause of death in the United States and the leading cause of long-term disability? According to the American Stroke Association, African Americans and Hispanics have a much higher risk of death from a stroke compared to Caucasians.
Knowing the risk factors of stroke is vital, but there are some risk factors that are uncontrollable.
Do you have questions or concerns about Medicare? Mercy Medical Center will be sponsoring a Medicare program for local seniors (or soon-to-be seniors) on Thursday, May 14th at Rodman Public Library, 215 E. Broadway St. in Alliance from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. This program will include an informative Medicare presentation from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m.

If a loved one experienced the signs of a stroke, would you be able to identify them in time to save his or her life? With a stroke, every minute, every second, counts, and in recognition of National Stroke Month, the Stroke Center at Mercy wants to make sure everyone in the community can identify the signs of a stroke.
Mercy Sports Medicine will host a Coaches Clinic from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 26 at Mercy Health Center of Jackson, located at 7337 Caritas Circle, NW, Massillon. The cost of the clinic is $20, and each coach attending will be able to apply for the state permit upon completion of the clinic.
