Mercy Goes Live with CliniSync Health Information Exchange

Topic: Hospital now offers real-time test results and reports to Stark County physicians to facilitate faster patient diagnosis and treatment | Contact: Cindy Hickey

Canton, Ohio: Through Ohio’s statewide CliniSync Health Information Exchange (HIE), Mercy Medical Center now offers real-time test results and reports to more than 700 physicians in Stark County. This technology enables doctors to diagnose and treat patients more quickly and accurately.

Available information via CliniSync includes general laboratory, radiology, pathology, microbiology, blood blank results and transcribed reports. “This kind of information sharing ultimately benefits patients most, which is why Mercy joined this rapidly expanding exchange,” says Tom Cecconi, Mercy president and CEO. “In addition to improving continuity of patient care, CliniSync also fosters communication between physicians, which is also key to the delivery of quality healthcare.”

CliniSync is powered by the Ohio Health Information Partnership, a Hilliard, Ohio-based non-profit with a mission to spur adoption of health information technology throughout the state. Mercy is one of 44 Ohio hospitals where CliniSync is now live.

CliniSync covers 77 out of Ohio's 88 counties and a network of 142 hospitals. HealthBridge, a Cincinnati-based regional HIE, connects the remaining southwestern Ohio counties, as well as counties in Kentucky and Indiana, adding 30 hospitals and 7,500 physicians. CliniSync and HealthBridge now share protocols of the Nationwide Health Information Network’s Direct Project, enabling physicians to communicate across the HIEs.
